Devotion & Discipleship: Ruth's Story
Ruth has always felt a deep calling to empower the next generation, but that passion grew even more when she gave her life to Christ. After earning her Uganda Certificate of Education, Ruth began her journey as a ward maid, dedicating herself to caring for others with quiet strength and compassion. Along the way, she found love and the joy of marriage. As her family grew and children came into her life, Ruth made the brave decision to start her own sewing business, which allowed her to continue supporting her family financially while staying at home with her precious children. She and her husband welcomed six precious babies into the world, but two were taken from them far too soon.
Several years into marriage, Ruth heard about Jesus and was never the same. She immediately devoted her life to following Jesus and teaching the next generation how to follow Jesus as well. Ruth quickly became a Sunday school teacher at her church. One of her greatest mentors, a missionary, taught her how to help children understand the gospel what it looks like to follow Jesus.
Ruth's dedication to discipleship took her to Nairobi for a two-week-long training at Child Evangelism Fellowship to become an instructor of teachers. Upon her return, she began teaching at Good Shepherd's Fold, a nursery school, where she didn't just teach numbers and colors--she empowered the next generation to follow Jesus and live sustainably in their communities. While at Good Shepherd's Fold, she also worked part time at Heal Ministries, teaching Bible lessons and English. During her fourteen years at Good Shepherd's Fold, many children's lives were transformed because of Ruth's teaching. We were blessed to be able to hire her full time after she retired from Good Shepherd's Fold.
In addition to discipling the children at the James Place, Ruth has raised up her four children. She now cares for her grandchild and her late brother's children. With Heal Ministries, she empowers the next generation to learn what they need to be successful and see their lives completely changed for the better. Her greatest joy is to see her former students thriving as young adults and blessing her for teaching them. Ruth truly lives out our mission at Heal Ministries--empowering women and inspiring change.
